Aiming to make ‘Paris the most connected city in the world’ Bertrand Delanoë has presented plans to install 400 free Wi-Fi hotspots by the end of 2007. As part of the ‘Paris digital city’ project along with the development of a fibre optic network, the Mayor of Paris is hoping to give “…Parisians a rapid access to all the new digital technologiesâ€.
The number of Parisians already connected to the Net is estimated at 60% of the capital’s population, which is 20% above the national average.
The 400 ‘bornes’ are to include 134 open air sites such as gardens and public squares, as well as 128 municipal buildings – libraries, museums, jobshops etc. At least half of these should be in service by June.

I don’t think any of them are u yet, as far as I can make out at least. There’s the café-Wi-Fi Google maps mash that lists cafés and Macdo’s that have free Wi-Fi and JDN have an Annuaire of Parisian hotspots, that’s all I know of.

No, the Parisian blanket Wi-Fi isn’t for tomorrow I’m afraid, will the 4OO spots be up before the end of the year as promised ?
