Particles, a small Web company from France, recently opened up public beta testing of Hey!Watch, their online video conversion and encoding platform, receiving page space & praise from the high priests in Webtech blogland.
So what’s on offer?
A - quick sign-up - web-based service with no software to download and install. All the major video formats and codecs are supported, there’s no size limit to files (there is a running time limit of 25 minutes). Once the video is encoded, Hey!watch stores both versions and sends you a download link. You then have 12 hours to retrieve your transcoded video.
Hey!Watch can also extract a video out of sites like YouTube, MySpace, Google Video, Metacafe, iFilm, Grouper, Revver, Apple trailer, Blip.tv, Break.com, and of course the French video sharing sites like DailymMotion, Kewego, Wat.tv and Wideo. It seems that even a video on a site that offers no download link can be liberated and encoded. Simply give Hey!Watch the URL of the page. There is also a - one click & grab it - plugin for Firefox.
Once the team from Marseilles extend the time limit to allow for full length feature films, there is little else I will need for encoding and watching videos….a bouille-à-baisse to take out perhaps?
