Moving on up with OpenServing
Well I tried to move on. I wandered off, looking elsewhere for interesting EU initiatives, after a disappointing time spent sifting through the write-ups and left-overs of the LeWeb3 conference held in Paris this last week. Then there was the blog opera that followed the conference, that kicked off nerd fights and a firing squad! (Good luck Sethi & TCUK).
But then I wandered back again, because there was this one new project whose birth was announced at LeWeb3 but then seemed to find itself sitting in a puddle of bathwater – on the outside of most blog pages covering the event.
I recommend, to anyone who is interested in the open source movement, freeware, the self publishing phenomena etc to have a look at OpenServing from Wikia.inc and the Jimmy Wales crew.
There’s a short interview with the man himself over at Reuters and an article at Wired – what if we give it away? to start you off.
“The real concept is to become much broader, to host lots of different free software and free content,” Wales said.
…and it sounds like a whisper…
